A recent study has unveiled the regions in the United States where road rage is most prevalent.
As per a survey conducted by Forbes Advisor, the state of Arizona emerges as the epicenter of road rage, earning the dubious distinction of having the worst road rage problem in the nation. The top ten states grappling with this issue include:
1. Arizona
2. Rhode Island
3. West Virginia
4. Virginia
5. Oklahoma
6. Alabama
7. Connecticut
8. Illinois
9. Texas
10. Ohio
Arizona also ranks second-worst in terms of the percentage of drivers who have been forced off the road, standing at a staggering 22.5%. Notably, the Grand Canyon state shares the third-highest position with Oklahoma when it comes to drivers facing tailgating, with a concerning figure of 70.5%. Furthermore, nearly one-third of Arizona drivers reported incidents where another driver exited their vehicle to engage in verbal altercations or physical confrontations, marking the fifth-highest rate in the nation.
In contrast, the states exhibiting the least amount of road rage are:
1. Delaware
2. Idaho
3. South Dakota
4. Louisiana
5. Wyoming
6. New Hampshire
7. Washington
8. Iowa
9. Indiana
10. New Mexico
The study delves into the root causes of road rage across the country. The primary factor cited by respondents is heavy traffic, accounting for 39.35% of cases. Other contributing factors include pre-existing stress (38.06%), running late (33.89%), existing anger (32.49%), and fatigue (26.86%).
Survey participants reported experiencing road rage most frequently on city streets (29.18%). Other locations where confrontational driving incidents occur include freeways and highways (26.59%), parking lots (14.9%), intersections (12.36%), and rural roads (7%).
Rhode Island stands out with the highest percentage of drivers who have experienced verbal insults, threats, or offensive behavior, reaching a staggering 96.5%. In contrast, Kansas boasts the lowest percentage in this category, standing at 32.5%.
Illinois registers the highest percentage of drivers who have been forced off the road, at 23.5%, while Wyoming reports the lowest, at a mere 1.5%.
The report also highlights a concerning trend: violent road rage incidents are on the rise nationwide. In the past year, more than 400 individuals sustained injuries in road rage-related shootings, marking a staggering 135% increase compared to 2018.
